Why do kids feel anxious about going to school?


No don't answer that!


They don't know.


Fears and anxieties, worries and those feelings we have that are not logical , live in the right brain so there is no point in asking the 'why' question. Their body is reacting as if they are facing the sabre tooth tiger and going into fight or flight but it's just school so their feelings are illogical which means the 'why' question just makes them feel worse. They are upset and worried already and now they can't answer what seems like a very reasonable question so that mean they feel 'not good enough', and they've upset mum and dad and perhaps their teacher which as unintentional but they can't do anything about it.


So what can you do?


  • manage your own expectations and your own worries - tap on how you feel about the situation before going in to wake them up. You don't want to take your energy of worry in to increase theirs.

  • they don't worry about everything. Remind them of times they feel brave and use an NLP 'anchoring' technique to help them

  • show them how to tap and tap with them to calm them down

  • essential oils like Doterra's Balance oil on the soles of their feet before bedtime and in the morning will balance their ;root chakra' and calm the fight flight reaction. Use 'Wild orange' in an inhaler or roller bottle for during the day over their tummy

  • remind them of what they have to look forward to, playing with their friends etc
