I'm Judy Bartkowiak, author, coach and trainer; mum of four grown ups in their 20s and 30s. I've been working in the area of understanding children and teens all my working life, first as Kids Brands Europe, a qualitative market research agency working with toy and tv brands and then as NLP & EFT Kids, a kids coaching and training company.
I loved working with children and learnt very early on that the best way to find out what they were thinking was to NOT ask them!
I trained with Bill Schlackman in my first job in Qualitative Market Research. He was a very well regarded Behavioural Psychologist who had worked with Earnest Dichter in the US in the 60s. I learnt from Bill how to create activities using art and play, to engage with children in order to find out what the client wanted to understand about characters, plot-lines and the way they related to the brand.
I worked with LEGO, Baby Born, Barbie, Shaun the Sheep, Little Tikes, Tomy, Fisher Price, Disney and many many others as well as all the big kids tv characters such as Postman Pat, Noddy, Fireman Sam, Peppa Pig, Bagpuss and the Clangers, Bob the Builder, Loony Tunes and so many more. It was great fun but gradually I began to think about the ecology of my work and that I could maybe use these skills to help children rather than big corporations. So for a few years I trained in NLP alongside running Kids Brands Europe until I was able to afford to just do my coaching work, although I supplemented my income through freelance writing. This enabled me to eventually get published as a writer with 5 books published by Hodder and Stoughton over the intervening years and 9 published by MX Publishing. Then of course I qualified as a trainer and by combining training with coaching and writing, I was and am able to spread the word about NLP and how to support your children; your own and those you coach, teach or care for, far and wide.
I added a number of other skills to my practice, notably EFT - Emotional Freedom Technique , Matrix Reimprinting and Reiki which focus much more on Energy Psychology and have the benefit of being content-free which means that clients don't need to recount their 'story' we can heal through following the energy and tapping on it. Similarly I've developed more art and play techniques to engage with children and teens without the need for explanations, lots of words and 'story'.
I'm proud to say that I'm probably one of the leading trainers in working with children and teens so do take a look in my training room to see if any of my courses appeal to you.
This was my first book published by Hodder and Stoughton.
You can find all my books in the Book Shop and of course you can wander through the rooms to discover more about what I offer.
I am passionate about what I do and my kids think I'm bonkers to still be working 'at my age'! But for me, this is how I choose to spend my time and so long as I still have two hours a day for my sports; cycling, tennis, yoga, aqua and walking my dog with friends, some time to relax and of course time for family, then I'm happy. Every client and every student matters enormously to me, it's what gets me up in the morning.
What gets you up in the morning?
Maybe if work is no longer fulfilling you might consider training with me or booking a coaching session?
