A new course in confidence for your 10-14yr old

Back in 2011 I wrote Engaging NLP for Tweens to help children with that tricky period between childhood and teens when they are discovering who they are and who they are not. It was a very popular book in the series of workbooks. Here are some of the reviews from Amazon.

"I love these books. I now have 5. As a teacher, I have found them a great way to learn about NLP. No jargon, quick and easy to understand. Brilliant!"

"My daughter has thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and has learnt some fantastic things about herself which I know will help her as she grows up. It’s also stimulated some amazing conversations at the dinner table with my teen son, tween stepson and partner, which has been really fun to be involved in, so thank you!! Will be buying the teen version soon!"

"Hooray! At last! I have been looking for a NLP book for this age group for a while. My daughter is 11 and often pops along to the NLP meetings with me, she then dabbles in my book collection, but they are all too wordy and complicated for her to understand.

In this book Judy Bartkowiak shows Tweens that they have Choices. The book is set out in workbook style for children to work through. It has short quizzes which enable the reader to understand 'how they work'. It explains NLP and the choices it gives, in a language that they understand and can relate to.

This book gives examples of everyday situations that Tweens encounter that they may find challenging, Judy then explains the NLP techniques and tools to aid them. These interventions are very easy to follow, with a sense of fun. She encourages a positive mindeset with a 'can do' attitude, covering areas such as Goal Setting, Confidence, Schoolwork, Friendships, Personal responsibility, self-belief and weight issues. Tweens learn how to Anchor a positive state, Time Line, Circle of Excellence, Swish pattern, and lots of other useful NLP techniques.

So glad that I found this book whilst my daughter is that age. She is loving it and has already informed me that she is a 'little chunker, likes choices and works towards things'! A definate must for those little NLPers!"

Here's the cover of that one so you can see which book is which.

I hadn't discovered EFT at that time and I decided this year to republish them (self published this time) to incorporate tapping so the new series is called Engaging NLP & EFT for ...... In case you are wondering why such a weird title it is because they are workbooks that I want readers to be able to write in, underline things, highlight key points of interest and write answers to questions in the book. I wanted readers to engage with the content, connect with it, make it theirs to own and apply in their everyday life.

I still adore those covers designed by Little Pink Pebble but sadly the original artwork was lost and in any case, I felt that a more modern look was needed.

The new book retains the same colour scheme. Green is the colour of the heart chakra if this means anything to you. It tends to relate to love of self, compared to the pink (rose quartz - very popular with the kids) which is more about love of others. Love of self can be very elusive when you are this age. Apart from anxiety, low self-esteem is one of the main issues I help children with. They usually express it as 'not good enough'.

Here is the description on Amazon

Moving from Child to Teen with Confidence and Resilience

The transition from childhood to the teenage years is a huge step. Between school pressures, changing friendships, and growing independence, many children feel anxious, lack confidence, or struggle to express themselves.

This practical workbook is written especially for children aged 10–14 years. It offers clear, engaging strategies that help them thrive during this exciting stage of life.

Inside, young readers will learn how to:

  • Understand how their mind works and how they learn best

  • Challenge limiting beliefs and build empowering ones

  • Grow confidence, focus and motivation

  • Develop resilience and bounce back from setbacks

  • Manage emotions with EFT (tapping) techniques

  • Improve communication skills and make stronger friendships

Written in a supportive, easy-to-read style, the book combines NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) and EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) with practical exercises that children can use right away. It empowers them to feel confident, resilient, and ready for life’s challenges.

As part of my mission to engage young people in learning how to manage their emotions, make choices, feel confident and empowered, be able to bounce back in the face of adversity and believe in themselves, I decided that each book should have its own course.

So, what do these courses involve?

  • Discussion with parent on what they feel child may need more of/less of as background for me to prompt where necessary

  • There are four one hour sessions which can be online or in-person

  • Delivered as a semi-structured presentation allowing kids to offer their own examples of what they are struggling with as a focus

  • Exercises are done together so they can replicate at home

  • Small tasks as homework to build (if they want) on what they've learnt

  • Book supplied as reference

The cost is £200 for the four sessions including free book worth £9.99.

At some point I might narrate the course so it can be downloaded but my current feeling is that by delivering the course live, it means I can pick up on anything the child is struggling with and help them in a way that would be impossible in a downloadable course.

I've tried to make the visuals fun and playful even though the content is educational. What do you think?

I've finished the course with my first tween aged 12yrs and he told me it had made a huge difference. I asked him in what way and he told me with a big smile "I made a new friend today!"

Whilst parents might put a lot of value on education, focusing in class and so on, I can assure you that a happy child with friends will work much harder than a sad lonely one. I think you know that don't you?

So give me a call if you think this course might work with you 10-14yr old. It's quite a general course so if your child has a specific issue that is more complex, more serious, I may recommend therapy sessions but let's talk about what you're experiencing with your child and I'll suggest how to move forward to a good solution for them and you.

The only other book in the new series that is complete is Engaging NLP & EFT for Sport so get in touch if sports mindset is more likely to appeal to them as a way to tackle pretty much the same issues as for tweens but for a wider older age group extending to 18yrs and focused on sport (their own sport) but from the mental and emotional aspect.
